New content available on Mercy Heritage Preservica Portal
We have opened up our Mercy Heritage using an online tool called Preservica. This tool has allowed us to store, catalogue, preserve and make available our archival material.
We have many primary sources relating to Catherine McAuley and the foundation of the Sisters of Mercy. This archive consists of treasures such as a collection of Catherine McAuley's letters, her writings as well as documents relating to the first House of Mercy. There are also letters written by the early foundresses.
Central to our archival treasures are the illuminated works of Sr. Clare Augustine Moore rsm and Sr. Cecelia Marmion rsm.
What's new for January 2025?
Following on from the 175th anniversary of the founding of Bermondsey Convent of Mercy (London), we are shining a spotlight on Sr. Clare Moore. You can see her entries into both the first and second registration book. An interesting fact is that Clare’s sister, Sr Clare Augustine Moore is the artist and illuminator of book of these beautiful books.
We also offer another glimpse of our Book of Flowers.
This year, 2025, is the 250th anniversary of the birth of an important figure in Irish history - Daniel O' Connell. He was known as “The liberator”. Did you know that he was a great supporter of Catherine McAuley and the first House of Mercy?
In our collection we have two letters where he is referenced; one mentioning his visit and another where he spoke in glowing terms about the Sisters of Mercy at a large meeting in Carrick on Suir in Co Waterford.
